The timing of the belt looks 1/4 tooth off due to the angle of the camera but is correct (compare the sprocket mark to the backing mark and belt mark to the sprocket mark). Trying to check this rear camshaft will trip up many technicians as, when viewed in a mirror, the timing frequently appears off a tooth but is correct:

    Re: DIY: 2.0L Timing Belt Replacement. The engine will spin on you you just gotta doit hard enough. Use a i think 22 or 21 on the crank bolt and turn, thats with the belt attached. I always set the timing marks before taking the old belt off to make sure its all ok.
The timing belt replacement has been pushed out to 6000 HRS. I also remove the battery / Holder to get a little better access to the motor.There is also a service bulletin on the correct placement of the tining belt tensioner. The kit has waterpump, tensioners timing and counterbalance belts.

With the belt removed , remove and replace the water pump . Coat the gasket with a little RTV silicone and clean the gasket mating surface well. Install the new timing belt in the opposite direction as removed . Make sure that all the timing marks are lined up . Reinstall the timing belt tensioner.If not, carefully rock the pulley until the marks line up. Double check that the marks on the camshaft sprocket align with the marks on the cylinder head. Thread the timing belt around the camshaft sprocket as described in your manual. Apply pressure to the belt by moving the tensioner into the belt.
